four Gamestops in one day
June 17th, 2008 10:11 am
Sunday was an epic day in my gaming life. It started off innocently enough with us going to the Gamestop/Barnes and Noble hybrid to kill some time before we had to take friends to the airport. I figured I'd ask about Beyond Good and Evil since Gray recommended it. No luck there, and they said that no other stores nearby had it either. I figured it couldn't hurt to check at the GS across the street anyways. Still no luck, but they did find us a copy at a GS further south. Well, we figured we'd be in the area when coming back from the airport, so we asked them to hold it. Before we left Dane picked up Death Jr., Lego Indy, and Mass Effect.
Fast forward to the drive back from the airport. Find the GS in the bowels of a mall. On a whim I ask if they have Ico. They don't, but ANOTHER store way up north does. While he's waiting for them to find the game and put it aside, I ask him if they happen to have Rez. ("Wow, you're asking for all of the hard ones today!") Miracle of miracles, they DO, and they put that one aside for us as well. We managed to find the place after navigating several access roads and a couple of parking lots. The copy of Rez is pristine, so much so that there aren't even any scratches on the case.
So the lesson we learned was: if you see an older game that you want, just get it right away. We got pretty lucky that we were able to find this stuff without having to pay a huge amount on Ebay, but we could have avoided it all if we'd just gotten the games years back when we saw them in the store.
