I voted!
November 4th, 2008 11:39 am
Dane and I decided to walk to our polling location this morning, since it's at the community college right next door to our apartment complex. We got to do our civic duty while getting a bit of morning exercise! The weather was lovely: overcast and cool, like an actual fall morning.
The line was definitely longer than the one I waited in at the primaries. We did have to wait for almost an hour, but that's really only because they were having problems with the machines. Once all of the machines were back up and running the line started moving much faster.
The machines they use here are strange. It's almost like the developers took a UI class and then proceeded to design everything opposite of what they were taught. There are large boxes next to each candidate's name that look like the boxes on a touch screen. Unfortunately, they aren't touch screens. You use a dial to select your choice, then hit "Enter" to select it. The "Previous" and "Next" buttons move you between the boxes for each office, not between pages. It's extremely cumbersome.
After I checked my ballot five times for accuracy (yes, I'm paranoid) I hit the big red "Cast Ballot" button and headed home. Dane is thrilled that he was able to grab a "Yo Voté" sticker to wear today.
